Featured Coach of The Month - Jim Larranaga
In his tenth year as George Mason's basketball coach, Jim Larranaga, 56, regularly informs his players to enjoy the ride, because he certainly is. During the overtime period of the Elite Eight game against UConn, coach said to his team "I would not want to be anywhere more than here with you". Larranga led his mid-major team to wins over Michigan State, North Carolina and Connecticut. Most agree he is headed for bigger and better coaching opportunities. Larranaga worked on Terry Holland's staffs at Davidson and Virginia, then moved to Bowling Green where he served as head coach for 11 seasons. His major revelations included learning to delegate responsibility and the importance of developing a very specific philosophy from year to year, even if a new staff member came on board or a new player joined the program. His motto is "Just play fellas".
